Code Efficiency

Damien (the contract guy thats working with me atm.) has finally cracked a piece of recursive tree-on-tree VB.NET code.
The code he has written is 25 lines long and took him 3 working days… thats about an hour per line!!!!
Whilst the code works, and works well, it is completely unreadable without comments. Hopefully the comments wont take 3 days to write.
First off two of those days I was working half-days.
Second of all your schema was broken :p
