Pre-Upgrade Upgrade
I have been forced to install the Spam Karma plugin for WordPress ahead of my planned upgrade to WordPress 1.5.
I have been working on a new theme for the site and have been planning on cleaning up all of the junk that has managed to creep into my current installation. My plans were to have Spam Karma installed with the upgrade so that it would be working with a clean system.
Those plans went to pot this morning when I received my first Trackback spam. I now have now installed Spam Karma along side about four other hack attempts at stopping the spam… hopefully one of them will work correctly.
I am still planning an upgrade. Maybe this will make me increase my efforts at getting the new site finished.
Trackback SPAM is about the most annoying thing in the world… I have discovered that a well written SQL statement can go a long way to helping by turning off trackbacks for old posts! Spam Karma can do this automatically for you I believe!
Whilst switching off trackbacks after a set period may be useful I was getting spam on “RTFM Anyone?” which was only posted in the last day or two!!!
Just as I feared, I’m getting conflicts between my various spam blockers.
I think because I have had to hack the comment posting for to get one of my old spam blockers to work, Spam Karma is now getting confused and thinks that comments are being blocked when they are infact being allowed through.
So I now get two emails, one to say its been blocked and the other to say that it has been authorised. Yay!
